The Yale School of Management, guided by its mission of educating leaders for business
and society, has been a pioneer in management education since its
founding more than 30 years ago.
“Our aim is to make Yale SOM the business school of the 21st century.” — Richard C. Levin, President, Yale University
In 2006, the school introduced its innovative integrated MBA
curriculum, designed to better meet the truly global demands of contemporary business and organizations.
But to fully implement and sustain this visionary model of management education requires:
The Campaign for Yale SOM supports these ambitious initiatives and is well on its way to achieving its goals. With the help of alumni and friends of the school, the campaign seeks to raise $300 million by 2011 — ensuring Yale SOM's leadership in 21st century management education.
Priorities
New Yale SOM Campus
In September 2007, Yale awarded the world-renowned architectural firm, Foster + Partners, the commission to design the new 230,000-square-foot Yale SOM campus.
The new campus aims to be the realization and embodiment of Yale SOM’s innovative integrated MBA curriculum, featuring "classrooms of the future," the designs for which have been directly influenced by new teaching approaches at Yale SOM. The campus will incorporate the newest technologies for teaching and learning, and provide ample spaces for community activities and group work.
Scholarships and Loan Forgiveness
Scholarships and financial aid play an important role in creating a diverse and outstanding student body — a defining characteristic and strength of the Yale SOM community.
The Yale School of Management Loan Forgiveness Program is the first of its kind among business schools and is now widely emulated in business and law schools around the country. It underscores the school’s mission of educating leaders for business and society by providing support to qualified recent graduates who choose to work in the public or nonprofit sectors, or in L3Cs or B Corporations, through a generous educational loan forgiveness program.
Curriculum and Program Development
Yale’s new approach to management education, exemplified by the integrated MBA curriculum, has necessitated the development of new pedagogical tools and programs, including "raw" cases and a required International Experience. These programmatic and coursework innovations complement Yale’s contextual, real-world approach to learning.
Professorships and Faculty Research
Yale SOM Faculty exemplify the school’s commitment to academic excellence, innovative research, and practical relevance.
Faculty members conduct research that generates new ideas, knowledge, and understanding that shape both business theory and real-world policy and practice.
The Centers at Yale SOM are hubs of activity for collaborative research with scholars and practitioners from other parts of Yale University and around the world. Their cutting-edge results are widely disseminated and are influential in the academic, policy-making, and professional communities.
A number of special initiatives introduced recently at Yale SOM have greatly contributed to the school’s tremendous forward momentum and rising reputation as an institutional leader in management education.
These special initiatives are wide-ranging and support research and field projects which have the potential for broad economic and societal impact.
